Insider Info for St. Croix ...
St. Croix is the largest of the US Virgin Islands, is 40 miles from her sister islands St. Thomas and St. John, and contains the eastern-most point in the United States: Point Udall. St. Croix boasts two towns: Christiansted and Frederiksted.
Christiansted is full of lovely, old buildings and has a boardwalk with restaurants and shopping on one side and the crystal-clear Caribbean on the other.
Frederiksted, where the cruise ships dock, has been beautifully updated and is now referred to by the cruise lines as the "Port of Solace" - a cheerful place that relieves anxiety - complete with restaurants and shops.
It is polite to take the time to be sociable, so be prepared to greet everyone you meet - especially as you walk into a store or restaurant - with a cheery "Good morning" (or afternoon or night, depending on the time of day). You will be rewarded with a smile and a "Good morning" in return! If you need to get someone's attention, saying "Good morning" is a polite way to do so, rather than saying "Excuse me."
Michelle at Cruzan Watersports reports that the newest - and most fun - place to eat is the East End Pizza at the Divi Resort. It is an open-air restaurant serving pizza, calzones, panini sandwiches, and a variety of salads and appetizers 7 days a week.
You may want to rent a car so you can explore this large, lovely island. Don't forget that we drive on the left in the Virgin Islands, so take extra care when driving and when crossing the street!
