Insider Info for St. Thomas ...

St. Thomas has a little something for everyone: great beaches to hang out on, crystal-clear water to play in and on, shopping, sight-seeing, and terrific restaurants and bars ... Some of which are on the beach!

It is polite to take the time to be sociable, so be prepared to greet everyone you meet - especially as you walk into a store or restaurant - with a cheery "Good morning" (or afternoon or night, depending on the time of day). You will be rewarded with a smile and a "Good morning" in return! If you need to get someones attention, saying "Good morning" is a polite way to do so, rather than saying "Excuse me."

Did you know that you may enter or exit a restaurant or bar while carrying an alcoholic beverage? If your drink is in a glass, just let the bartender know you want to "walk with" it, and you will be provided with a plastic cup. It is courteous to buy a drink where you are, once you have finished the one you brought with you. However, it is illegal to drive while intoxicated, so please drink responsibly; we have lots of island taxis if you need a ride home.

Love listening to music? Barefoot Davis plays at Latitide 18 every Monday night, and at the Elysian Beach on Sunday afternoons. Dick Solberg "The Fiddler" and the Sun Mountain Band play at Latitude 18 Thurs-Fri-Sat from January 9 to April 4. Click here to see a video of the Fiddler.

No sales taxes in the VI! Each visitor has a duty-free allowance of $1600 when returning to the U.S. from the USVI. This is the highest allowance in the entire Caribbean, so make important purchases here! You may take home 6 bottles of liquor per person, if one bottle is produced in the VI - our island rum is a great buy!

Don't forget that we drive on the left in the Virgin Islands, so take extra care when driving and when crossing the street!
